METRO’s Webinar Archives
In March 2020, we were all tasked with completely reworking every aspect of our lives due to the immediate needs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. For yours truly, this meant figuring out how to transition fully from METRO’s calendar of live events into exclusively remote options. The topics that needed to be addressed changed equally rapidly.
With the program “Managing a Branch Library from Home” taking place on March 30, we were one of the first organizations to move necessary conversations online. In those early days, we hosted panel discussions on how to transition from working on-site to working remotely, community calls so we could all debrief on what we were going through, and smaller group calls to address specific circumstances. I personally found our Community Call for Those Living Alone During a Pandemic to be very cathartic and useful.
Most of the webinars we hosted have been recorded, edited, and made available on YouTube. METRO’s webinar archive includes a growing cache of presentations given by experts in the library industry. As of this writing, our YouTube page has 60 recordings on topics like web archiving, using data to drive collections management decisions, and empathetic approaches to serving library users. Our videos have had 16,600 views as of this post.
Moving into this domain meant, for me, setting new policies, creating new workflows, and ensuring that staff received training on software relevant to our swiftly-changing needs. If you look closely, you may be able to see our growing level of comfort and understanding of how to operate within this new environment.
